We lost someone special to cancer today. Donna Summer, the disco singer, passed away at the age of 63 today. She had kept her battle with cancer  private, so this comes as a shock to many.

Cancer affects so many. Help the American Cancer Society fight back and find a cure by taking part in your local Relay for Life event.

There are some really fun events coming up this month in Southern Minnesota! The Cinco De Mayo festival is going on this Saturday in Central Park, downtown Owatonna! There is no charge to come out and participate They'll have markets, vendors and entertainment for all. This Saturday is also the SPRINGTIME AT THE FARM event at Farm America just west of Waseca. The event goes From 11 am – 3 pm – come out and enjoy the events of spring at Farmamerica. There will be baby animals, garden planting, games and activities. It is a great family event. Food and refreshments will be available on the grounds. Admission is $3.00 per person, children 2 and under are free.

Yesterday, we lost a great man, and a very important man in Rock and Roll music history. Dick Clark passed away from a massive heart attack on Wednesday April 18th 2012 at the age of 82. He was a mainstay in living rooms world wide for many decades. Dick Clark could be considered a primary force in ligitimizing Rock and Roll music. He hosted American Bandstand from 1957-1987. He gave Americans their first exposure to artists such as Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, and the Talking Heads.

His passion for music, broadcast, and his communication skills, brought him a fruitful carreer. By the 1970's, he had created and produced the American Music Awards show and had branded himself as CEO of Dick Clark Productions. Craig remembered his game show, Pyramid, fondly, on the morning show today. My generation watched many a ball drop during the Dick Clark Rockin' New Years Eve in Times Square as he announced the ball drop year after year, with that timeless, ageless smile. His enthusiasm shined through the screen. Clark was often referred to as "America's oldest teenager." He is beloved by so many, and he will be missed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I'm not actually going to spend any amount of time talking about the Hunger Games...That movie/book series has a serious hold on our nation right now. It needs to further promotion from us. But speaking of what's trending, is it me or has there been major interest in all things bacon lately!? I do want to mention that Burger King is introducing a BACON SUNDAE! Craig is drooling in studio right now looking at a picture of it. The man loves bacon. Seriously, we've heard about bacon shakes, I saw a bacon "rose" bouquet, recently a bacon bra, and of course the bacon COFFIN! What gives? Not a great time to be a pig. Well, maybe it is. Depends on how you look at it;)

Our summer weather kind of went out the window, but that's ok! 50's and 60's ain't bad.

Are you loving this awesome weather? I know we are! It is all t-shirts and shorts in the KOWZ studio this week! Sunshine makes me happy. Craig was in Wisconsin all weekend putting new floors in his cabin, so he came back with swollen hands and a sore back, looking generally in pain. And I spent much of my weekend in Minneapolis where I saw a great local band, The Birthday Suits. Basically, it feels like summer started early! Indeed, it feels like summer- we are already calling out for our Wedding With the Stars at the Steele County Free Fair! Oh, and being in love is good too.

The cold can cause muscles to tighten, increasing your risk of injury. Even if exercising indoors, make sure to warm up for at least 10 minutes prior to exercising. Use brisk walking or stationary cycling at a low intensity to gradually increase your body temperature.

And don't forget to stretch! Especially when it's cold out. Craig saw a "whoosh" of snow come through already this morning.

Craig was talking about Whoopie Pies today on the Morning Show- I had no idea what he was talking about, so I googled them. I totally know what whoopie pies are! If you don't, google Whoopie Pie and you will have that D'oh moment too ;)

Not a lot to report today. No SNOW STORM, Minnesota! This winter has been so crazy. It seriously feels like April. Last month was dubbed Jarch by me, because it felt like March. This has basically been Fapril. What will March hold? I guess we'll see! It's the FINAL COUNTDOWN on American Idol tonight- we'll see who advances to the top 24. It looks like at least one person from our neck of the woods is going to be advancing. It's exciting. Tomorrow is Friday and that could not excite me more! Fo reals.

Don't forget to go out to the Little Theatre of Owatonna and see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels! It's the last weekend, and it's HILARIOUS!

Ladies and gentlemen- It's President's Day! Many have the day off of work today, but if you are like Craig and I, it's just another manic Monday, and yes, we do wish it was Sunday. I went out to a concert this weekend and got a nice $42 parking ticket, and Craig made it out to the Wild game where he was served many beers...so both of us could have used a little extra sleep. What's that saying-No rest for the wicked!? :) Anyways, radio doesn't sleep! Happy President's Day, everybody! We hope you all had a great weekend. There were a lot of fun local events over the weekend, and it sounds like many of them were a success! It's Wednesday, "hump day" :) This used to be my favorite day of the week until I became an adult with one full time and two part time jobs! Now my favorite day of the week is Friday. Hey kids, he's Stella McCartney's DAD, you know the fashion designer? Oh, also, he was in this band- super popular in the 60's, you might have heard of them, they were called the BEATLES with an A, like "beat." Give me a break!

I can't believe it! It's SNOWING! This rules! However, it did not rule this morning when there was literally frost  forming inside my 1989 Oldsmobile- but it sure is nice to finally see some snow on the ground :) There are some really fun events happening as we near the end of January! Tonight is "Redneck Night" at the Eagles Club in Owatonna. Johnny Cash tribute band Church of Cash is playing and it's going to be amazing. Craig and I interviewed the frontman on the morning show today and he sounds exactly like Johnny Cash. I got bashful. Speaking of great oppportunities for seeing some LIVE music this weekend- The Michelle Jamison Band is playing at Ryder's Bar N Grill in Janesville Saturday night! They are a boogie blues power house, and there is NO COVER, so go check them out!

It finally feels like January! And we could be getting some snow, which rules- Goodness knows Don White wants to get out on that snowmobile! Awww, poor Don! We could get up to 5 inches this weekend! The Morehouse Park Warsinski Chalet and a portion of the outdoor skating facility will open for the Season on FRIDAY JANUARY 13th at 3pm! Hours will be: WEEKDAYS 3pm-9:30pm, Holidays and School Vacations 11am-9:30pm, SATURDAYS 11am-9:30pm, and Sundays NOON to 9:30pm! The Chatel rents cross country ski equipment, skates, and has food consessions in operations! Let the winter fun FINALLY begin ;)

also, this SUNDAY the Celebrating Benita Benefit Breakfast & Silent Auction is happening at the Waseca American Legion Post from 8am-1pm. Benita Nelson passed away from metastatic cancer on Nov, 25, 2011. A fund has been set up for Benita at the Owatonna Hometown Credit Union. Come and support her family and celebrate her life this SUNDAY JANUARY 15th!!!

Planned for a 7 week deployment exercise with other nations, diverted to Libya and further operations, HMS Ocean found out they were coming back back in time for Christmas- after 7½ months away - 225 days with 176 at sea :) They made this video to celebrate! We love it!

Notice how nobody says "Merry Christmas" anymore? ;) I feel like if I were to yell it across the street, cars would come to a screeching halt. Just kidding- it's not that bad! But people are noticeably more sensitive lately than ever before. Indeed, Craig and I are always PC....

Ok, we talked about this in the Morning Show today- And yes, it's true: apparently TLC's What Not To Wear is having an episode devoted to the Minnesota State Fair! This comes as no real surprise! Have you ever people watched at the Fair? It's like a time warp into the late 80's, only somehow more greusome. It should be an entertaining episode! It airs on Tuesday, Dec. 13th!
